A Family Affair

Anne West was born (1935) and educated in England. She first came to Canada in 1960 and worked as a secretary in Montreal, where she met her husband Chris, a shipbuilder. They were married in 1965. After several trans-Atlantic migrations and the acquisition of three sons, Peter, Michael and Anthony, they moved to Newfoundland in 1980. Anne became a journalist, covering the Burin Peninsula for The Evening Telegram. When they moved to Halifax in 1982, she freelanced, specializing in offshore oil and gas. In 1986, she joined the Public Affairs Department of Saint Mary's as editor of The Times. After retiring in 1994, she became immersed in fundraising for the restoration of Saint George's Round Church in Halifax, for which she received an honorary degree from the University of King's College in 1999. An invitation to create this book was a welcome opportunity to return to the Saint Mary's family.
