A Minor Work: Stories and Poems Roger Pocklington, PhD, FCIC, was born in England and obtained degrees from Oxford University, the University of British Columbia, and Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia. An oceanographer, his research took him to every ocean of the world. In retirement, Dr. Pocklington lived in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and taught part-time at Acadia University. Dr. Pocklington was a keen observer of people, circumstances and events. He wrote non-fiction throughout his life, but his association with the Writer’s Group of the Wolfville Newcomers Club encouraged him to assemble this collection of short stories and poetry. He passed away in May 2004, while this book was in the final stages of production. This diverse and delightful collection of short stories and poems has something for everyone. There are stories for the retired military types, yuppies, history and art buffs, dog lovers, scientists and children. His stories always have a sting in the tail, a treat for the reader to discover. The author willingly admits he drew his inspiration from the people he met and the experiences he had during his travels all over the world. |
