I am a real cat and I make my home aboard the barque Picton Castle, a working tall ship teaching sailing skills, trading goods and delivering educational supplies on ’round-the-world voyages. I am popular with children and adults in all the countries we visit. I am very honoured to act as an ambassador representing Canadians and their generosity. I am happy to share my story. A percentage from the sales of this book goes to purchase educational supplies for schools in the South Pacific and South Africa. —Chibley

The Author and the Illustrator
For twelve years Ruth Wells sailed aboard a 38-foot yacht, London Pride, from Lake Ontario to points south, along with her trusty Captain John and 2nd Mate Benjamina Bunny. She now calls Nova Scotia home. She became interested in the Picton Castle while touring the ship during the 2000 and 2004 Tall Ship Festivals in Halifax. Upon learning Chibley the Cat lived aboard and had sailed around the world, she decided this very unique cat had a story that should be told. Chibley, normally a shy feline, finally agreed to share her adventures. The author has also had the great privilege of sailing aboard this beautiful barque. She shares her home with two cats, a rabbit, a dog, a bird and various fish. Oh yes, and of course her own Captain, John, who taught her a love of sailing.

Nova Scotia artist Doug MacCabe enjoys painting scenes of classic cars and old buildings. His choice of medium is oil, because of its forgiving properties. He has studied under William DeGarthe and international artist Cheri Smith, and has taken life classes at NSCAD. He teaches adults painting at the U.F.C.W. Training Centre  and has also taught children’s art classes. Doug was the illustrator for Mel’s Story, which won the Ambassador’s Award in 2003. He is very pleased to be part of the creation of Chibley: The Cat Who Went to Sea.
